    The Kin
    “Mary”
    Get On It

The Kin is a band made up of brothers Isaac Koren(vocals, keys) and Thorald Koren (vocals, guitar, keys), and Shakerleg (drums, percussion). Their new EP, Get On It, was produced by Tony Visconti, famed producer of T. Rex and David Bowie. The single, “Mary”, is a great pop song that is propelled by the great drumming technique of Shakerleg, which often relies on him using is hands instead of sticks, which he says he picked up on the streets of New York. Isaac and Thorald’s combined vocals are perfect with a warbly technique that really works. The lyrics of “Mary” are complex and require repeated listenings to understand. In the end, the lyrics remain cryptic, which is the point.

The Kin are also notorious for their staged “Musical Robberies”, in which they enter a cafe or restaurant and yell, “this is a robbery, a musical robbery”, and then they begin to play their instruments and sing for the crowd, always winning them over. Watch out. The Kin are touring the US right now after a stint of opening for Pink. A “Musical Robbery” will be happening in your town soon. Be ready.
