    “New York Morning”

The Take Off and Landing of Everything

elbow is compose of Guy Garvey (vocals), Mark Potter (guitar), Pete Turner (bass), Craig Potter (keyboards), and Richard Jupp (drums).  elbow is that band that has everything: great hooks; beautiful vocals; wonderful, lush production; and, most important, tremendous lyrics.  Take their first single, “New York Morning”.  This song is probably the best love song to New York City since “Alice” by Mott the Hoople and “Chelsea Morning” by Joni Mitchell.  When you love a city like elbow does, you can’t help but stay there forever.  The song references the great love John Lennon had for the town, especially his quote, “They’re nice to Yoko.”  This is an extremely beautiful, touching song from a beautiful album that deserves all the respect and accolades it is receiving.
