    A Prayer

In this time of uncertainty, violence at home and abroad, we all need a little hope.  Danielia Cotton provides some hope with her beautiful album, A Prayer.  Danielia comes from African American and Native American heritage, and grew up in a predominantly white town in New Jersey — recent health struggles could have easily affected her future in music, as well — and she used all of these experiences to become the absolute powerhouse she is on this latest record.  Cotton’s musical background includes Mavis Staples, Ella Fitzgerald, and Aretha Franklin, her mother’s gospel choir, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and the Stones.  When she heard Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, and Tina Turner, she knew she wanted to perform “Black Rock”.  Also, Chaka Khan’s version of “I Loves You, Porgy” and Bing Crosby.  With such a great background, and her inert talented and hard work, she has certainly succeeded on her own terms.  Although her childhood was tough, her mother’s support and her own drive made her strong.  Listen to this album:  it overflows with confidence with a touch of sadness.  This is the sound of a truly mature artist, with a beautiful voices, beautiful self-penned songs, and beautiful guitar work.
