    “Have A Heart”

    Pretty Years

Cymbals Eat Guitars have a new album coming out, and that’s always a good thing.  The band, composed of singer/guitarist Joseph D’Agostino, bassist Matt Whipple, keyboardist Brian Hamilton, and drummer Andy Dole, have indeed crafted what’s easily their most sonically enigmatic and most rewarding album to date.  Cymbals Eat Guitars have always pushed their musicianship and craftsmanship to form wonderful albums, but with Pretty Years, they have crafted their masterpiece, showing as with artists like Springfield, Bowie (may he rest in peace), Patti Smith, and Neil Young, that boundary breaking music can be made late (relatively-speaking) in a career and be over-the-top.  Their first single, “Have A Heart”, rather than being a tale of woe as the title might inspire, is actually a tale of a relationship victory.  As D’Agostino says:

“I had never written an honest-to-goodness love song before this one, and I never thought that I would. Throughout my teen years and adult life, I was in a series of really toxic relationships plagued by jealousy and insecurity, but when I met my current girlfriend I knew that I had found someone who lifts me up, and who I lift up. Matt Whipple and I co-wrote the music together and we tried to make that joy evident in it. This is a song of jubilation. I’m personally very proud of it.”

Listening to the single, you can see why the band finds this single and album a personal triumph.
