One of the most beautiful bands out there, Cigarettes After Sex is an ambient pop group based out of Brooklyn, NY led by songwriter Greg Gonzalez. Formed in 2008, the group consists of keyboardist Phillip Tubbs, bassist Randy Miller and drummer Jacob Tomsky. I have described them as Mazzy Star with a male singer, but it really is true. Every time they release a song, I get super excited. This really is my favorite band so far this year. Gonzalez has mentioned that Leonard Cohen was a huge influence, and you can hear that in their music. Beautiful sadness.
