    Cigarettes After Sex

This is one of the best bands out there.  So sad, so sexy, think Lana del Rey without the theatrics.  Greg Gonzalez, the band’s frontman/guitarist, had a remarkable idea to record the album in one take with one microphone, like the Cowboy Junkies did on The Trinity Sessions.  It totally works.  Working with his band that includes Randy Miller on bass, Jacob Tomsky on drums and Phillip Tubbs on keyboards, the  lyrics hearken back to The Smiths, and the music to Mazzy Star, Gonzalez has invoked what I call pop-noir romanticism.  This is the music you listen to late at night while you are thinking of that certain someone who is no longer in your life.  I love this band.  Sadness, happiness are two sides of the same coin.
