Honest Beauty: Phoebe Bridgers – “Would You Rather”

    Phoebe Bridgers

    “Would You Rather”

    Stranger In The Alps

There is something so honest, so refreshing about Phoebe Bridgers.  Her voice is plaintive and direct, and her writing is so different.  She can be any character that she wants to be, while at the same time making you believe that character’s point of view, a very complex task which she does perfectly.  I love her acoustic guitar playing.  The fact that, although her voice and guitar take center stage, there are often strange beats and sounds filtered through the background that do not take away from the center.  Having Ryan Adams sing with her just adds to the power of “Would You Rather”.  This is the new woman to watch.  She takes the honesty of Torres with the wit of Regina Spektor and makes this all her own.  Next year will be the year of Phoebe Bridgers.
