Classical Blue Grass: Hawktail – “Unless”

    Hawktail

    “Unless”

    Unless

There is literally nothing that sounds like Hawktail (formerly Haas Kowert Tice).  These musicians extraordinaire are comprised of Brittany Haas (fiddle), Paul Kowert (bass), Jordan Tice (guitar), and Dominick Leslie (mandolin).  They have created a sound that is complex yet easy to listen to.  Haas fiddle playing is like something you’d hear drifting from the Blue Ridge Mountains or from a Bach/Mendelssohn concerto; she is that great.  And Kowert, Tice, and Leslie (great new addition), make love to their instruments.  This is great music.  I would call it classical blue grass, or just Hawtail, because there is no category to label them, which is what great music should do.  Just listen, let them take you away.
