Americana Harmonies: The End Of America – “Break Away”

    The End Of America

    “Break Away”

This trio from Philadelphia just blew me away.  Comprised of James Downes, Trevor Leonard and Brendon Thomas, and possessing the most accurate name in music right now, The End Of America is a great Americana band that consist of the tightest harmonies since Crosby, Stills, and Nash were young.  Only a band of friends could sound so tight.  But don’t think harmonies are the only thing going for these guys; their instrumentation is much more intense than all a lot of trios.  This summer, they are playing at many festivals, which is where they will really be able to show there talents.  According to their bio:

“Break Away” was recorded at a cabin, produced by the band and mixed by the aforementioned Leonard, during a break mid-tour. “It was one of those sessions that felt like magic. A full moon. There was a pond full of peepers near the cabin and you can hear them on the tracks,” recalls Thomas. They played on wine glasses and looped stomp/clap ideas. Lots of spontaneity and experimenting. Yet, still holding true to their sound but also pushing into a bold new direction, morphing pastoral acoustic instrumentation with drum loops and, of course, the band’s signature lush harmonies.

See them at the following locations:
