Jax Anderson – “Can’t Get Me High”(feat. PVRIS)

Coming from Detroit, Jax Anderson is bringing her uncompromising persona to this summer like a tsunami.  Anderson performed under the name Flint Anderson, but decided to start performing under her own name.  As she told Jerilyn Jordan from the Detroit Metro Times:

“It was one of those things where it kind of just hit me one day. I basically make music because I want to authentically be myself, and I had gotten to a point where it felt like I was hiding behind a name and hiding behind different costumes, like the big hat. There were these barriers that I had created to protect myself, and I just got to a point where I don’t want to be a character. I want to be an artist that’s just like, ‘This is me, take it or leave it.'”

In my book, Anderson has a beautiful booming voice and a personality that is outwardly gay and not hesitant to be herself.  In some ways, she reminds me of SOAK, another unafraid lesbian.  This is the music we need to celebrate Pride.

    [Verse 1]
Why you won’t go waste my time?
All I wanted was the sun to shine
But you always cloud up my mind
    It’s not worth it
    It’s not worth it

    [Verse 2]
Go sit at the empty table
Now I’m dying to just see if you’re able
    To say anything substantial
    It’s not worth it
    It’s not worth it

    It’s not worth it
    It’s not worth it
    It’s not worth it

    [Pre-Chorus]
These days, everyone wants something from me
    It’s so ugly
(But you can’t get me high)
These days, yes, I’d rather be feeling something than nothing
(But you can’t get me high)

    [Chorus]
All I wanted was something I can believe in
(But you can’t get me high)
All I wanted was something I can believe in
(But you can’t get me high)
All I wanted was somеthing I can believe in
(But you can’t gеt me high)
    Thought that you were something
    Thought that you were something
    Thought that you were something

    [Verse 3: PVRIS]
Why you gotta go waste my time?
Been looking for the brighter side
‘Cause the good is hard to find
    It’s not worth it
    It’s not worth it

    Not worth it, hey
    It’s not worth it, hey
    Not worth it

    [Pre-Chorus]
These days, everybody wants something from me
    It’s so ugly
(But you can’t get me high)
These days, guess I’d rather feel somethin’ than nothing
(But you can’t get me high)

    [Chorus]
All I wanted was something I can believe in
(But you can’t get me high)
All I wanted was something I can believe in
(But you can’t get me high)
All I wanted was something I can believe in
(But you can’t get me high)
    Thought that you were something
    Thought that you were something
    Thought that you were something

    Hey, it’s not worth it
    Not worth it, hey
    Thought that you were something

    [Outro]
All I wanted was something I can believe in
All I wanted was something I can believe in
All I wanted was something I can believe in
    Thought that you were something
    Thought that you were something
