Soccer Mommy – “Kissing In The Rain” (Dark Nights: Death Metal Soundtrack)

Soccer Mommy is back, and the new song kicks.  As usual, Soccer Mommy’s are mixed into the background, which is perfect for her songs, the guitar is nicely jangly, the drums are all over the place, and the bass has this great booming sound, and as always, the whole song coalesces and then totally falls apart, purposely, at the end.  Sophia Regina Allison AKA Soccer Mommy is an out, bisexual artist who claims her main influences are Liz Phair and Mitski.  I love the fact you never know what Soccer Mommy is going to do with the production of her songs, slowing down the middle or, as in this case, cacophony for the ending.  Any way you look at it, Soccer Mommy’s songs about life and love are always worth the time to listen to, and “Kissing In The Rain” is one of the best.  Quite a great song from an up-and-coming great artist.  Her loves do always have a twist, and this song starts out with one of the greatest lyrics ever:

Missing you felt like pulling teeth
I taste the metal when you’re next to me
    It’s so cold and sweet
It makes me wanna take it back
To the night when you’re car died
Kissing in the rain on a summer night
    It was warm and sweet
It makes me wanna take it back
Makes me wanna take it back
Makes me wanna take it back
Kissing you felt like a lack of strength
The touch of your lips made my legs go weak
    It was warm and sweet
It made me wanna take it back
To the night when it all began
I thought that fun was what I wanted then
    Something cold but sweet
I wish that I could get that back
Wish that I could feel like that
Wish that I could get it
But remember what it felt like
When you told me it was the last time I’d be seeing you
    I’d be seeing you
    I’d be seeing you
    I’d be…
