Troye Sivan, something to give each other, pop music, rush

It is our first ever DOUBLE hot new album Fridays feature with 2 albums reaching the status this week. They are two completely different albums but each a masterpiece of its own genre. Read our reviews below.

    8/10 Rating – Great Album

We will start with Troye Sivan’s Something To Give Each Other. Sivan’s knack for crafty and clever pop is radiant on this album. Sivan tackles topics ranging from sex, to love, to gender fluidity and beyond. Sivan stated to Apple Music “There’s 10 stories, 10 moments,” he says of the album, which took around two and a half years to complete. Between COVID and filming the TV series The Idol, he was granted a “luxury of time” he’d never had before. “It ended up serving the album really well because it gave me time to see which songs stuck around.”

“I’ve felt very hopeful and joyous and connected, but there’s a lot of vulnerability as well,” Sivan says. There’s love, sex, and heartbreak, the thrill of reemerging feelings, fleeting yet vital moments of intimacy and communication. There’s a sweaty club moment (“Rush”), balmy dance pop (“Got Me Started”—which samples Bag Raiders’ definitive 2008 hit “Shooting Stars”), gentle confessionals (“Can’t Go Back, Baby”) and sensual house (“Silly”). And it’s all told through the lens of welcome self-discovery and unapologetic, undiluted queerness. Here, he talks through the stories of each song on Something to Give Each Other. The album is definitely worth checking out for fans of pop music. Check out Troye Sivan’s “One Of Your Girls” below:

    8/10 Rating – Great Album

Ghost’s 13 Commandments has melodic, pop structures placed against hard rock. The band plays with their raucous energy and sentimental lyrics. The Swedish rock band pays great homage to the macabre but does it in a fun and exciting way. Who knew death could be so fun?
