The Bay Area band Torrey embarks on a journey through a dreamlike realm with their second album, a self-titled collection of twelve tracks that navigate the realms of shoegaze and moody indie rock. These guitar-centric compositions meander through atmospheric soundscapes, melding into a cohesive aura of ethereal joy.

In the process of creating this album, siblings Ryann and Kelly Gonsalves embraced a newfound liberty, crafting a meticulous recording setup that enabled them to pursue every creative whim, resulting in their most thoughtful project thus far. The album shines with a spectrum of soft luminescence, its meticulous structure artfully veiled by a hazy sheen that enhances rather than detracts from its emotional depth.

Forming Torrey in 2018 during their time in San Francisco, Ryann and Kelly’s initial releases, the 2019 EP “Sister” and the 2021 LP “Something Happy,” both self-released and recorded at the iconic Tiny Telephone studios, showcased a pristine, sparkling pop sound.

The development of their latest album marked a shift to a more deliberate and expansive approach. The duo exchanged voice memos, delving into new melodic concepts, guitar tunings, and techniques, gradually building upon song foundations with detailed drum arrangements. Eventually, a home studio was established in Ryann’s residence, where Matthew Ferrara from the Umbrellas contributed to the recording process.

The collaboration among the group was naturally synergistic and relaxed, fostering an experimental spirit and a genuine connection to their music and to each other. They aimed to capture the essence of the album swiftly, to preserve the excitement of the project, infusing each stage with thoughtful intention and meticulous care. Check out “Bounce” below:
