Emerging from the vibrant St. Louis music scene, the up-and-coming band Hot Joy, comprised of members Austin McCutchen (guitar/vocals), Nicole Bonura (bass/vocals), Curt Oschner (guitar), and Wil McCarthy (drums), is set to make a splash with the announcement of their debut EP, “Small Favor,” slated for release on April 19th, 2024. This EP promises a riveting journey through six tracks of unyielding catchy choruses, robust guitar riffs, and a delightful mix of chaos and charisma, marking a significant entry for Hot Joy into the Midwest indie-rock landscape. Accompanying this announcement, Hot Joy unveils “Fingers On My Side,” a buoyant and spirited lead single from the EP. The song, as described by McCutchen, revels in the profoundness of life’s seemingly minor moments, encapsulating the essence of authenticity and the monumental impact of life’s fleeting joys.

The debut track is also paired with an engaging music video, bringing a visual element to Hot Joy’s introduction to the world. Directed by the band’s drummer, McCarthy, the video aims to establish a unique visual identity for the group. Shot with a vintage Panasonic camcorder and spiced up with quick animations, the video’s DIY charm is undeniable. Filmed in the accommodating aisles of Local Harvest, a local grocery store that opened its doors to the band after hours, the video is a testament to Hot Joy’s creative vision and communal spirit, setting the stage for what seems to be an exhilarating journey ahead for this promising band.
