The Southern California trio Rec Hall—comprising John Barry on guitar and vocals, Lance Meliota on drums, and Ben Tyrrell on guitar and bass—skillfully navigate the realms of indie, rock, and alternative music, crafting a uniquely catchy, sun-soaked sound. John and Lance, who grew up in Los Angeles’ South Bay area, first met as four-year-olds in elementary school. Over the years, they bonded deeply, drawing inspiration from music spanning the 1960s to the 2000s, and spent countless hours jamming to bands like Led Zeppelin, The Clash, The Shins, and Interpol. By high school, they solidified their band with the addition of Ben, and the lineup began to make waves, winning multiple “Battle of the Bands” and performing tirelessly at local venues. Throughout college, they continued to hone their craft, collaboratively writing songs and seamlessly switching instruments, which added a three-dimensional quality to their music. Their collaboration with producer Nicolas Zagorin resulted in the debut single “She Doesn’t Get It,” which organically exploded, amassing over 20 million Spotify streams. In 2023, their growing popularity caught the attention of Arista Recordings, leading to a recording contract. Their debut EP, “Localism,” and their 2024 release, “How Long,” both for Arista, have continued to build their momentum. Listen to their debut EP below:
