With a slower tempo than their other recent releases, Razor Braids’ song “Big Wave” showcases a deeper, more emotional dimension. It serves as an anthem for the heartache that comes with losing a friend or enduring family conflicts, embodying a sense of melancholy that comforts like a warm hug. As the lyrics suggest, these overwhelming emotions can unexpectedly engulf one, much like a wave, which is a metaphor the Brooklyn trio vividly brings to life. The track features wistful vocals and surf-inspired guitar sounds, making it ideal for a gentle spring day.

Discussing the inspiration for “Big Wave,” Razor Braids explains:

“’Big Wave’ explores the profound impact of losing non-romantic love—whether it’s friendship or family strife—and the intense, destabilizing sorrow that follows. It feels like being swept up in a big wave!”

“Big Wave” was penned in the summer of 2023 and recorded at Paper Moon Studios, produced by Jeremy Given and Jake Cheriff. The release is accompanied by a poignant video that captures the strength of friendship and the support friends offer each other during tough times. The video features the band members at Coney Island, cheering up Hollye Bynum after a platonic breakup.
