Foster the People’s fourth studio album, Paradise State of Mind, marks a significant evolution in their sound, blending the lush rhythms of late 70s disco with the vibrant synths of early 80s New Wave. The album, released in August 2024, sees frontman Mark Foster and the band exploring themes of healing and emotional resilience, a departure from their earlier, darker hits like “Pumped Up Kicks.” Standout tracks such as “Lost in Space” and “See You In The Afterlife” exemplify this shift, with introspective lyrics set against a backdrop of danceable, feel-good beats.

The album feels like a concept piece, crafted as a soundtrack for an ideal mindset that balances life’s hardships with a hopeful outlook. While the album lacks the immediate radio-friendly singles of their debut, it offers a cohesive and immersive experience, inviting listeners to engage with both its upbeat and reflective moments. With Paradise State of Mind, Foster the People delivers a mature and polished sound that still retains the infectious energy that fans have come to love. This, in our opinion, is one of their best albums yet.

    Rating 9/10 – EXCELLENT Album
