SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE has unveiled their latest sonic venture, ‘YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING’, through Saddle Creek, accompanied by a visualizer for the standout track “1/500.” A departure from their more angular past, this album leans softer around the edges, presenting a work that is as emotionally charged as it is sonically avant-garde. Building on the introspection of their 2023 EP, *i’m so lucky*, which delved into the aftermath of Zack Schwartz and Rivka Ravede’s breakup, *YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING* dives deeper into themes of relational decay and the instability that ensues. This fifth album from the band is arguably their most refined effort to date, crystallizing their unique aesthetic into a collection of meticulously crafted, beautifully poignant, and quietly devastating songs.

The album includes previously released tracks like “LET THE VIRGIN DRIVE” and the double single “SOMETHING’S ENDING” / “I’VE BEEN EVIL,” each continuing the band’s exploration of post-relationship turmoil. With its intricate soundscapes and haunting melodies, ‘YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING’ stands as a testament to the band’s ability to evolve while staying true to their experimental roots.

The band is gearing up to bring their new material to life on stage, embarking on a 22-date tour starting September 24th at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall. The tour will wind through major cities like Detroit, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and Washington, DC, before concluding on November 9th with a hometown show at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer. Special guests Winter and Kassie Krut (formerly of Palm) will join on select dates. Tickets are available now.

Over the past decade, SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE has carved out a niche as purveyors of rock’s most compelling deconstruction. Through four albums and various EPs, Zack Schwartz, Corey Wichlin, and Rivka Ravede have embraced and transformed noise, samples, and raw emotion into something distinctly their own. From the noise-punk explorations of 2018’s *Hypnic Jerks* to the introspective unraveling of *YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING*, the band continues to push boundaries and redefine their sound with each release, affirming their place among rock’s most innovative artists.
