Chicago indiepop band Humdrum, fronted by Loren Vanderbilt, has dropped the final single, “Eternal Blue,” from their upcoming debut LP Every Heaven, set to release on October 18 via the legendary Slumberland Records. With its infectious bassline kicking off the track, “Eternal Blue” weaves together elements of dreampop, shoegaze, and indiepop, creating a mesmerizing groove that hints at influences from bands like R.E.M., Ride, and Slowdive. Vanderbilt recalls how the song came together organically, starting with a drum machine beat that guided the other elements into place, making it a hypnotic reflection on loneliness and the search for connection.

Lyrically, “Eternal Blue” taps into the feelings of isolation, with Vanderbilt poetically framing love as the resuscitation from emotional suffocation. The song’s title draws inspiration from the 90s video game Lunar: Eternal Blue, though Vanderbilt reinterprets it as the “blue of a sky with no horizon,” symbolizing the ethereal beauty of the universe. This blend of nostalgic references and contemporary themes gives “Eternal Blue” a timeless quality, perfectly complementing Humdrum’s nostalgic yet forward-looking sonic landscape.

Every Heaven promises to be a standout release for fans of the dreamy, atmospheric sounds of past eras, channeling an array of influences while maintaining a deeply personal and reflective core.
