The Discarded continue to build momentum with the release of their second single, “Going Down to the Beach,” which dropped on November 4th, 2024, as a taste of their forthcoming album The Green Door. Following their fiery debut single “Testify!,” this track plunges into surf-punk waters, offering a raw and reflective escape from everyday chaos—a journey to unplug, both literally and figuratively. Written by frontman JP Wasson during the early days of lockdown, it captures his yearning for a mental reset while balancing work amid the pandemic’s pressures.

“Going Down to the Beach” delivers a punchy blend of Beach Boys retro vibes and Ramones grit, channeling a surf rock groove layered with punk’s relentless drive. The falsetto backing vocals, sharp punk riffs, and nostalgic energy call to mind bands like the Ramones, the Dickies, and the Descendents. With catchy melodies and introspective lyrics, it’s a song about finding calm amid the chaos, encouraging listeners to seek solace from life’s grind.

The track might sound like a summer punk anthem, but its themes run deeper—touching on self-reflection and the pursuit of healthy escapes from life’s destructive tendencies. It’s both a sonic and emotional break, an anthem for clearing the mind and finding grounding.

With The Green Door, set for release on November 25, 2024, the father-and-sons trio shows their evolving garage rock sound with a punk edge. Under the seasoned production of John Critchley (known for work with Elliott BROOD and Dan Mangan), the album promises a high-energy experience that’s as raw and emotive as it is steeped in retro punk influences. As with “Testify!,” “Going Down to the Beach” highlights The Discarded’s knack for fusing nostalgia with fresh intensity—fueling anticipation for what’s next in The Green Door.
