Vancouver’s rising punk juggernaut Chronic Fatigue is back, charging full speed ahead with their second EP, Surrender to Serenity. Dropping on November 15, 2024, this self-produced release is a sonic manifesto that expands their raw punk roots into a daring blend of post-punk, metal, and experimental hip-hop influences, marking a new chapter for the band’s evolving sound.

With four blistering tracks, Surrender to Serenity is a testament to the band’s willingness to experiment while staying true to their high-octane punk ethos. Vocalist Sam Patterson’s love for artists like JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, and Death Grips shines through, adding a unique vibrancy to the EP’s energetic soundscapes. Tracks leap from heavy punk grooves to sharp, intricate vocal deliveries, seamlessly blending aggressive guitar riffs with rhythmic, hip-hop-inspired beats. It’s a sound that feels innovative yet familiar—a natural evolution for a band unafraid to push its own boundaries.

The EP’s collaborative writing and recording process brought new depth to Chronic Fatigue’s sound. Guitarist Sean Wilson, bassist Dylan Bondy, and drummer Quinn Letendre leaned heavily into their live-show chemistry, crafting songs that aim to capture the frenetic energy and sheer fun of their performances. Lyrically, the tracks oscillate between optimism, introspection, and irreverent humor, all delivered with an intensity that demands attention.

For Surrender to Serenity, Chronic Fatigue drew inspiration beyond their musical influences, tapping into skate culture as a creative muse. Videographer Liam Tait, an integral part of the band’s visual storytelling, introduced the group to classic skate videos, igniting a newfound appreciation for the intersection of punk and skateboarding. Patterson explains, “Both scenes are tight-knit communities of outcasts—misunderstood, pushed aside, but thriving together. That rebellious energy fueled our approach to this EP.”

Known for their explosive, interactive live shows, Chronic Fatigue has solidified their reputation as one of Vancouver’s most exciting acts. With Surrender to Serenity, the band strives to bridge the gap between the stage and the studio. These four tracks feel tailor-made for live performance, embodying the grit, sweat, and camaraderie that define the band’s onstage presence.

Chronic Fatigue’s Surrender to Serenity is more than just a punk record—it’s a bold statement of a band in full creative stride. With its sharp fusion of hip-hop and punk, introspective lyrics, and undeniable energy, this EP is both a love letter to their roots and a fearless leap into uncharted territory. Whether you’re in the pit or just hitting play, this is one release you don’t want to miss. Mark your calendars for November 15, and prepare to surrender.
