Model Child’s latest release, the TiLT EP, is a mesmerizing showcase of Danny Parker’s ever-evolving artistry. Building on the momentum of 2024’s earlier projects, including the full-length album GetThere! and the hyperpop-inspired single “Sports,” Parker’s second release of the year cements his reputation as an indie art-rock innovator. The EP’s collaborators—an impressive roster featuring Rusty Santos (Panda Bear, Black Dice), Owen Pallett (Arcade Fire), Josh Diamond (Elliott Smith, Gang Gang Dance), and Jon Nellen (Big Thief, Ginla)—bring unique textures to a soundscape that feels both experimental and deeply personal.

The EP’s opener, “Cherish You,” introduces a thrilling contrast of sonic elements, pairing pulsating synth bass with Parker’s airy falsetto. The repeated refrain, “I cherish you,” floats between waves of strings and frenetic percussion, creating a dynamic push-and-pull of reverie and chaos. It’s an electrifying introduction, immediately drawing the listener into Parker’s world.

“Everything Will Change,” making its first official release after being featured in the film Next Exit (with contributions from Ariel Marx and Danny Elfman), shifts gears into a haunting ballad. The track’s droning guitars and meditative toms set the stage for Parker’s introspective lyrics: “Don’t know where it starts / Don’t know where it ends.” It’s a poignant reflection on life’s uncertainties, delivered with an emotional rawness that lingers long after the song ends.

Parker’s sharp critique of societal structures takes center stage in “Do That Dance.” Here, his lyrics slice through the faceless march of power dynamics: “Handshakes wave like flags / and hang on poles / like distant stars.” The driving rhythm and ominous undertones amplify the track’s urgent message, making it a standout moment on the EP.

TiLT concludes with “For You,” a triumphant, string-laden anthem that perfectly balances introspection and catharsis. Parker’s knack for crafting infectious melodies shines as the track builds to an exhilarating crescendo, leaving listeners with a sense of hopeful finality.

Model Child’s ability to traverse experimental landscapes without losing sight of heartfelt storytelling makes TiLT a remarkable release. With its fearless production, existential themes, and Parker’s unmistakable voice, this EP is not just a continuation of his creative journey—it’s a defining statement.
