Humanhood marks the return of The Weather Station, the first full-length release from Tamara Lindeman since 2022’s How Is It That I Should Look at the Stars. The album sees Lindeman continuing to explore the complexities of personal and global turmoil with her signature introspection and poetic lyricism.

The lead single, “Neon Signs,” debuted last autumn, with Lindeman explaining in press materials that it emerged from “a moment of feeling confused.… the confusion of being bombarded with advertising at a moment of climate emergency, the confusion of relationships where coercion is wrapped in the language of love.” The track, a sprawling ballad reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s emotive storytelling, set the tone for the album’s intricate exploration of modern anxieties.

Following “Neon Signs,” Lindeman released a trio of equally intricate singles: “Mirror,” “Window,” and “Body Moves.” These songs further showcase her evolving sound, weaving together elements of jazz, folk, and ambient textures. Each track highlights Lindeman’s knack for blending deeply personal reflections with broader societal concerns, reinforcing Humanhood as a meditation on identity, connection, and the challenges of navigating an ever-changing world.

With its lush arrangements and thought-provoking themes, Humanhood positions The Weather Station as a vital voice in contemporary folk, offering both solace and confrontation in uncertain times.
