Sasami Embraces Pop with ‘Blood on the Silver Screen’—A Bold Reinvention

Sasami, the conservatory-trained powerhouse of a singer, songwriter, composer, and producer, first captivated audiences with her 2019 debut—a shoegaze-drenched storm of synths and guitars. But with her third album, she’s making a bold leap into the world of pop, channeling the electrifying spirit of Femme Fatale-era Britney Spears and Born This Way-era Lady Gaga. The single “In Love With a Memory,” featuring Clairo, pulses with the arena-ready energy of latter-day Muse and the Strokes, proving she’s got serious chart instincts. “I was always a weirdo outsider, and I didn’t feel like pop music spoke to me,” she admitted. “As a woman of color, I felt pressure to create something mysterious or groundbreaking, always steering away from lightheartedness.” Blood on the Silver Screen is her triumphant rewrite of that narrative—an unapologetic embrace of pop’s power, on her own terms.
