Ty Segall Unveils Fiery Title Track “Possession” Ahead of New Album Release

Ty Segall’s 16th studio album Possession gallops into view on May 30 via Drag City, and today he releases its thrilling title track. Co-written with filmmaker Matt Yoka and fueled by Segall’s delirious guitar riffs, piano, strings, and horns, “Possession” spins a cinematic rock fable of frontier witch hunts and human fragility. Its opening line—“A bible placed beside the butter by a farmer of misfortune in the winter”—kicks off a compulsive roller-coaster chorus that asks, if it ain’t broken, why fix it?

Following the eerie buzz of “Fantastic Tomb,” this new single doubles down on Segall’s Most Inventive Ever promise. As he scans city wreckage and dreams of a new empire, Segall’s collaboration with Yoka paints vivid lyric vignettes pulled from Rube Goldberg machines of life and mythic Americana.

Ty is currently on a solo acoustic spring tour, then joins Primus as full band support this summer, before returning for his own headline run in October. Don’t miss him in your town!
