With “Sorrow Again,” NYC’s Glimmer delivers a masterclass in grungegaze melancholy — sun-drenched and gut-punched in equal measure. Their first release of 2025, the single arrives like a lost 90s anthem reimagined through a modern shoegaze lens. Engineered by Jeff Berner and mastered by Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight), the track opens with a jangly guitar riff that seduces before detonating into a wall of fuzz and emotion. The chorus is a knockout — yearning, catchy, and full of that special kind of heartbreak that feels oddly good to sing along to.

“Sorrow Again” is steeped in the emotional repetition of grief and self-reflection, but never becomes dour. Glimmer walks a tightrope between nostalgia and now, evoking shades of My Bloody Valentine, Hum, and early Smashing Pumpkins while forging their own visceral sound. It’s melodic, distorted, and drenched in longing — tailor-made for cathartic late-night drives or the blur of a live show.

Live, the band has already earned their stripes, sharing stages with Cloakroom and Pissed Jeans. Tonight’s release show at NYC’s Night Club 101 kicks off a European tour that includes stops at Supersonic in Paris, Sommer Am U in Dortmund, and Hana-Bi in Italy. If “Sorrow Again” is any indication of what’s to come on their debut LP this fall, Glimmer is ready to shine far beyond the underground.
