After turning heads with explosive debut shows in Chicago and NYC, Racing Mount Pleasant have officially announced their long-awaited self-titled debut album, out August 15 via R&R (home to Mk.gee and Dijon). Alongside the announcement, the band drops a stunning new single, “Your New Place” — a cinematic, slow-burning opener that perfectly captures the raw emotion and intricate instrumentation the group is quickly becoming known for.
The track builds with patience, then swells into a rush of gritty guitars, big-band crescendos, and aching vulnerability. It’s a bold continuation of the sonic palette introduced on earlier singles “Call It Easy” and “Racing Mount Pleasant”, which Stereogum praised for blending garage rock grit with sweeping tenderness. And it’s just the beginning.
Born from a house near the University of Michigan where the members still live and create, Racing Mount Pleasant emerged from their former identity as Kingfisher to fully embrace a more defiant, genre-bending sound. Their debut LP is a beautiful collision of technical musicianship, emotional heft, and fearless experimentation. Expect layered arrangements, unexpected turns, and a band that refuses to fit into anyone else’s mold.
Catch them live this fall as they hit the road with Geese for the Getting Killed Tour, running October 10–30 with stops in LA, NYC, Chicago, and more.
