🎧 Fruit Bats Share Emotional New Single “Creature From The Wild,” Announce Album Baby Man
GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Eric D. Johnson (aka Fruit Bats) returns with the beautifully moving new track “Creature From The Wild”, a heartfelt tribute to a beloved dog who passed this spring. Out now via Merge Records, the single captures love, grief, and gratitude in a way only Johnson can.
🦴 Listen: “Creature From The Wild”
“This is a hero song,” says Johnson. “He was a Mexican street dog — a wild animal, a true gentleman, and a swashbuckling spirit. He saved us for a while. I’ve always wanted to write a dog song.”
The track is from Johnson’s upcoming solo album Baby Man, out September 12, featuring 10 raw and intimate recordings. Stripped down to voice, guitar, and keys, the album reveals a new level of emotional clarity and space in Johnson’s songwriting. Produced by longtime collaborator Thom Monahan, the album’s minimal, front-and-center production brings new weight to Johnson’s already magnetic voice.
From now through September 11, 100% of Bandcamp proceeds from “Creature From The Wild” and a portion of digital album pre-orders will support Baja Street Dogs — a tribute as generous as the song itself.
Fruit Bats will also hit the road this fall for An Intimate, Solo Evening with Eric D. Johnson, with dates in LA, SF, Chicago, Brooklyn, Toronto, and more.
