Philadelphia’s indie troubadour Alex G (Alexander Giannascoli) takes his most profound creative step yet with Headlights, arriving July 18 via RCA Records, marking his official major-label debut.
Opening with “June Guitar,” Alex drapes his soft-spoken vocals over warm organ and mandolin, sounding like a morning train ride through sunlit nostalgia. But Headlights is no gentle retreat—it’s a deeply introspective travelogue that unfolds over 12 tracks blending synths, baritone guitars, and lo-fi flourishes.
“Afterlife,” the lead single, blends eerie synths with mandolin lines reminiscent of classic soft rock, while “Beam Me Up” spirals into a sci-fi dreamscape. On “Real Thing,” he confronts the soul-selling tension of fame and “label cash,” and the heartfelt “Louisiana” glows with shoegaze-infused echoes: “The only one who wanted me.”
This is Alex G unfiltered—balancing emotional rawness with shimmering instrumentation. Though the production has blossomed, the authenticity remains intact, proving he can embrace clarity without losing intimacy. Headlights finds him standing in full light—and he’s still shining.
