OK Cool, the Chicago duo of Bridget Stiebris and Haley Blomquist Waller, just dropped “Last,” a gripping final single ahead of their debut album Chit Chat—out this Friday, August 1st—and it might be their best yet. Melding acoustic warmth with fuzzed-out electric guitars, “Last” is both vulnerable and towering, channeling the emotional depth of Basement’s “Oversized” with OK Cool’s signature punch.
There’s an intimacy to this track that makes it feel like a whispered secret and a full-body scream all at once. “I really love combining acoustic and electric guitars… I think it makes for a really blended and colorful piece of music,” Stiebris shares. And she’s not wrong—there’s a worn-in, lived-in beauty here that anchors the entire Chit Chat experience before fans even hear it in full.
Following the infectious “Safety Car” and raucous “Waawooweewaa”—both praised by FLOOD, Stereogum, and Paste—“Last” adds emotional weight to OK Cool’s already-mighty tracklist. With Chit Chat, the band stretches beyond their punky, blink-and-you-missed-it EP days into something more expansive but no less urgent. The album was entirely self-written, performed, and produced by the pair, a testament to their tight creative bond and DIY ethos.
Catch them on tour this August, with stops in Chicago, Cleveland, NYC, and Philly. If “Last” is any indication, Chit Chat is going to be a record you’ll carry with you.
