Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman returns with a flourish of romanticism and wit on his latest single, “Wedding in Leipzig,” a shimmering 10-minute narrative that spins like a novel in song form. The track, filled with longing, loneliness, and quiet revelations, is the latest glimpse into his upcoming album, Songs For Other People’s Weddings, due out September 12 via Secretly Canadian.

More than just an album, Songs For Other People’s Weddings is also a literary collaboration with bestselling author David Levithan. The companion novel, out now via ABRAMS, follows a wedding singer named J who writes custom songs for couples while struggling with his own relationship.

“Wedding in Leipzig” is a Lou Reed–inspired gem filled with colorful characters and quietly devastating insights. Jens calls it a song that “never wanted to end,” and it’s easy to hear why—it’s immersive, funny, bittersweet, and brimming with soul.
