NYC’s fiercest garage rock revivalists The Thing have officially dropped their analog-fueled, attitude-drenched self-titled third album — out now via their own Onion Records. Built from a year-long rollout of gritty A/B sides, the full 12-track experience — from swaggering opener “Above Snakes” to final track “Irresistible” — is meant to be played loud and in order. Stream it here: THE THING (2025)

A homage to rock’s golden past with a modern, no-frills twist, The Thing channels the chaotic magic of The Kinks, The White Stripes, and Velvet Underground while throwing in nods to Bowie, the Byrds, and their own New York roots. Forget digital polish — this is raw, live, tape-recorded rock and roll, straight from bedrooms and basements to sweaty stages across the world.

Formed in high school and now a staple of the NYC underground, the four-piece has been on a tear: 300+ shows, including opening for The Black Keys in Berlin, tearing up Best Kept Secret, and headlining a sold-out three-week residency at Night Club 101 in NYC. Now, they’re bringing the noise down under and back home.
