Portland pop duo foamboy return with their new stand-alone single “Phone”—a dreamy yet pointed reflection on our tech addiction—and celebrate with a release show tomorrow, Aug. 14, at Holocene.
Vocalist Katy Ohsiek penned the track about feeling “glued” to her device, imagining the freedom if her phone broke beyond repair: “My data can’t be tracked, my face won’t be recognized, and I’d do something better with my time.”
Comprised of Ohsiek and producer Wil Bakula, foamboy released their acclaimed sophomore album Eating Me Alive in March 2024—a darker, richer blend of disco, psych-pop, and electronic ballads, praised by Willamette Week as one of Portland’s “Best New Bands.” With spins on KCRW and KEXP, plus Spotify and Apple Music playlist placements, the band continues to expand their reach while recording their next LP.
