Midlake return this fall with their sixth studio album, A Bridge To Far, out November 7 via Midlake Records/Believe, and it might just be their most vital release yet. Produced by Sam Evian (Big Thief, Cass McCombs, Hannah Cohen) at their longtime creative home, The Echo Lab in Denton, TX, the record finds the psych-folk legends leaning fully into what makes them unique: rich atmospheres, textured instrumentation, and lyrical meditations on persistence, humility, and hope.
The album’s first single, “The Ghouls”, sets the tone beautifully. Written at a moment when the band was unsure of their future, the song reignited their shared spark, capturing Midlake’s signature balance of haunting beauty and quiet uplift. It’s both a reminder of their deep catalog and a hint at new sonic ground.
Guests including GRAMMY-nominated Madison Cunningham, Hannah Cohen, and Meg Lui add warmth and nuance, while tracks like “Days Gone By” and “The Calling” showcase the band’s wide dynamic range—from pastoral world rhythms to brass-fueled crescendos. Evian’s production ensures the record feels spontaneous yet cinematic, grounding the dreamlike qualities in earthy, lived-in textures.
Midlake’s story has always been one of evolution and endurance. Over two decades in, they remain a band tethered to shared purpose and friendship. A Bridge To Far isn’t just a new chapter—it’s a statement of survival, gratitude, and belief in something just beyond reach.
