NYC indie stalwart turned solo force Mallory Hawk has shared her explosive new single “Felicity,” a raw and urgent track that signals her boldest artistic leap yet. The song arrives with a video by Nara Avakian (of Nara’s Room), featuring Craig Hendrix of Japanese Breakfast on drums, amplifying the track’s restless, heavy momentum.
Raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Hawk grew up surrounded by rock devotion thanks to her music-obsessed parents. After embedding herself in New York’s DIY circuit—earning recognition as a live bassist/vocalist for Trace Mountains, Customer, and M(h)aol—Hawk quietly built a vast archive of her own demos. Now, with the guidance of producer Sam Acchione (Alex G, Girlpuppy, Winter), she’s stepping firmly into the spotlight.
“Felicity” was written in August 2024, just before Hawk left New York after seven years. Written over a drum loop, the track channels the exhaustion and loneliness of that period, its jagged riffs and distorted vocals mirroring the monotony she describes: “Everyone around me seemed to be happier and richer while I was constantly scrambling for brief moments of escape (aka ‘Felicity’).” The result is an anthem of frustration and release, one that hints at the sonic range of her forthcoming debut album due in 2026.
The video captures that intensity in full: Hawk, Avakian, and Hendrix conjure a sense of chaotic liberation, matching the song’s grind with imagery of escape and rupture. It’s a striking step forward from her quieter singles of last year, showcasing the heavier side of her eclectic sound.
