Today, Nashville-based indie rocker Ferguson (Ian Ferguson) unveils his long-awaited sophomore album Never In My Life — a kaleidoscopic 10-track journey through classic rock warmth and experimental pop shimmer. Out now via The Orchard, the record arrives after nearly five years of obsessive mixing and refinement, written and performed entirely by Ferguson himself. Listen to Never In My Life here.
The focus track, “New Love (Oh So Wrong),” is a rare acoustic-led, feel-good anthem that Ferguson calls his attempt at writing an uplifting song without losing authenticity. With layers of percussion and a breezy groove, it’s one of the album’s brightest moments. “It was, believe it or not, one of the hardest songs to nail down,” he admits, “but it turned into a pick-me-up for anyone who needs it.”
The LP also features the playful, psych-pop single “On a Dime (Coco Is High),” which began as a joke tune for a post-surgery friend but evolved into one of Ferguson’s quirkiest highlights. The Tennessee native — once part of The Kingston Springs before turning solo — crafted this album with the spirit of Sgt. Pepper’s and Pet Sounds in mind, merging lush harmonies, vintage textures, and restless creativity. Though the five-year process tested his patience, Ferguson’s vision is now fully realized, cementing his reputation as one of Nashville’s most inventive rising voices.
