Chanel Beads, the project of NYC-based musician Shane Lavers, has released his haunting new single “The Coward Forgets His Nightmare” via Jagjaguwar. The track pairs Lavers’ stark introspection with Maya McGrory’s gossamer vocals and Zachary Paul’s aching violin, building a dreamlike, cinematic landscape. Listen here.
Written and recorded in a blur of restless nights, Lavers describes the song as “a dedication to the love we are given”—a piece born from fragility, stitched together with collaborators McGrory, Paul, and producer Mr. Carlson.
The single arrives on the heels of a special surprise show at NYC’s Intercom with Voyeur and precedes Chanel Beads’ Madison Square Garden debut tonight, opening for Lorde. The run continues with Lorde in Pittsburgh and D.C., followed by back-to-back dates with Grizzly Bear at Brooklyn Steel, a headline show in Miami, and a slot at Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City.
“The Coward Forgets His Nightmare” follows 2024’s acclaimed Jagjaguwar debut Your Day Will Come, a record praised for its bold fusion of post-punk grit, pop heart, and electronic surrealism. Lavers continues to blur the lines of genre and time, creating music that feels both spectral and deeply human.
