San Diego’s Moondaddy have shared their hypnotic new single “Great Expansion” — the first taste of their sophomore LP Dove Tapes, out Halloween and available for pre-order now HERE. Watch the lyric video HERE.
Led by singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Cara Potiker, Moondaddy’s analog-driven dreampop finds beauty in imperfection. With shimmering guitars, gauzy synths, and Cara’s delicate vocals, “Great Expansion” captures the ache of love lost while hinting at brighter universes still to come.
Recorded fully analog at Sonic Ranch (Tornillo, TX) with Manuel Calderon (Animal Collective, Portugal. The Man, Beach House) and mastered straight from tape to lacquer by Paul Gold (Grizzly Bear, Songs: Ohia), the album continues the band’s pursuit of organic soundscapes that balance intimacy with grandeur.
Dove Tapes was born from personal upheaval — fractured friendships, breakups, and the weight of global turmoil — yet its spirit is hopeful. “I pictured a dove carrying an olive branch,” says Cara. “I’m committed to creating little microcosms of love, despite what’s happening in the world. That’s what art facilitates — and what we all need to keep doing.”
Moondaddy’s live lineup — Patrick Heaney (drums), Robert Wren (bass), Gabriel Poissant (guitar), and Eric Coughanor (cello) — will bring Dove Tapes to life this fall.
