NYC-based band Star Card are stepping boldly into the spotlight with their forthcoming debut full-length, Trash World, due November 14, 2025 via Already Dead Records. Ahead of its release, the band have unveiled the music video for “Flowers” — a raw, vulnerable anthem that captures the unpolished honesty at the heart of the group.
Frontperson Calley explains the ethos of Star Card with striking clarity: “For me, Star Card is an exercise in being more vulnerable and resisting the urge to pretend everything’s okay. It’s not, but life carries on anyway. Especially in a culture that demands we only show our polished sides, I want to talk about what’s rough, the circumstances I’ve escaped, and the ones that haunt me.” That sentiment runs through “Flowers” — a song steeped in jagged guitars, lo-fi textures, and a cathartic vocal performance that feels like both confession and release.
The story of Star Card begins with an unlikely meeting in 2022: Calley (vocals/guitar) and Brendan Landis (drums) connected through a shared reverence for Elliott Smith, forming a friendship that grew into music. Originally born out of Calley’s solo bedroom recordings, Star Card quickly grew into a full-fledged four-piece, adding Jake Whitener (guitar) and Jackson Tarricone (bass) to round out the sound. Their 2023 Freak World EP offered an early glimpse into the project’s scrappy, noise-pop roots — but Trash World promises a fully realized, heavier, and more expansive statement.
Recorded at Headless Studios in Brooklyn, Trash World was self-produced by the band and later mixed and mastered by Andrew Gerard Nault (drab, Lesser Glow, Forn). Its DNA carries a mix of noise rock, lo-fi pop, and heavy art rock — blending basement grit with lyrical vulnerability. It’s a record that explores survival, self-reckoning, and the catharsis of making noise loud enough to drown out the silence.
With Trash World, Star Card stand poised to break through NYC’s underground circuit into a wider audience, bringing with them the same unflinching honesty that fuels “Flowers.”
