With her heart firmly stitched to her sleeve, runo plum (the project of Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter runo plum) releases her tender and achingly beautiful new single “Pond.” The track arrives alongside an intimate music video and the announcement of a U.S. tour following her performances at Pitchfork London and Pitchfork Paris. Her debut album, patching, is due November 14th via Winspear (Wishy, Slow Pulp, Teethe).

Premiered to glowing praise — with Rolling Stone calling her “a special new songwriter” and Stereogum describing her music as “enchanting and accepting of human frailty” — runo plum has quickly become one of the year’s most compelling new voices in indie folk.

“This song came from feeling really stuck in a slump,” runo shares. “It’s about the height of absence, pain, and loneliness — fighting that inner voice that tells you your best option is to disappear. The fuzz guitar near the end mirrors the horror I was feeling inside.”

Built around warm acoustic textures and a gauzy swirl of fuzz guitar, “Pond” captures the quiet ache of survival — the small, stubborn act of staying.

About the Upcoming Album — patching

patching is a document of transformation. Written during an intense period of emotional repair after heartbreak, it charts runo’s journey through loneliness, anxiety, and the slow rediscovery of joy. Produced with labelmate Lutalo, the album was recorded over two weeks in a rural Vermont cabin alongside collaborator and instrumentalist Noa Francis, blending studio precision with homegrown warmth.

Each of the album’s twelve tracks examines healing from a different angle — longing for friendship, spiraling through self-doubt, and, ultimately, finding love again. “Every song is an emotional fragment patched together into one project,” runo explains. “You can feel the damage, but also the repair — the slowing down in order to move forward.”

With her crystalline vocals and evocative lyricism, runo plum offers something rare: vulnerability without sentimentality, pain without despair. The album’s delicate balance between devastation and rebirth makes patching one of the most anticipated debuts of the year.
