Portland’s electro-pop duo Foamboy are back on the dancefloor with “Summering,” a four-on-the-floor heater that glows with equal parts euphoria and unease. Accompanied by a moody, minimalist nighttime video, the track finds producer Wil Bakula and vocalist Katy Ohsiek expanding their sonic palette — leaning into a darker, more introspective energy that turns the summer heat into something hauntingly human.
“I had a really lonely summer recently and wanted to write about the contrast between the weather and the feeling,” Katy shares. “I’ve lived through a few wildfire seasons in Oregon — it always reminds me that summer can shift from exuberant to violent. The beats Wil’s been sending are more moody than past Foamboy stuff, so I’m leaning into lyrics that feel a little spooky.”
It’s that contrast — between pulse and pause, groove and ghost — that makes “Summering” so compelling. The single builds on the world they crafted with their acclaimed 2024 album Eating Me Alive, where Foamboy explored heartbreak, queer identity, and burnout across lush disco-infused soundscapes. “Summering” distills that emotional range into four minutes of steady-beat melancholy — a bittersweet banger for anyone who’s ever danced through sadness.
