Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten of Chinese American Bear cruise through Seattle on a vintage moped in wedding attire — laughing, glowing, and singing “Forever Lover (永远的爱人)” beneath a neon skyline.

Seattle-based duo Chinese American Bear — married musicians Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten — return with their most heartfelt track yet, “Forever Lover (永远的爱人)”, out now with a charming new video directed by Eleanor Petry.

Following their acclaimed 2024 sophomore LP Wah!!! (Moshi Moshi Records), which blended Mandarin pop melodies with Western indie-pop sensibilities, this new single expands their cross-cultural world even further — and captures love in its most enduring form.

A Love Song Built to Last

Rooted in shimmering pop and layered with unexpected textures, “Forever Lover (永远的爱人)” moves like a dream — tender, dynamic, and richly melodic. Beneath its glowing surface lies something deeper: a real-life love story that’s been 17 years in the making.

Anne and Bryce met in high school, dated for ten years, and married in 2018. The track reflects that kind of rare connection — love not as a fleeting spark, but as an enduring flame, softened and deepened by time.

    Anne shares:

“This song is one of the more romantic love songs we’ve written. It’s inspired by our own love story… I kept asking Bryce to write a song that’s more directly pop, and he finally did! It was fun to work on — and a challenge for him to produce something in this vein.”

The structure itself defies convention — rather than a standard verse/chorus repetition, it unfolds with a second main melody in the latter half that feels “both beautiful and nostalgic,” Anne explains.

    The Video: Love on Wheels

The accompanying video captures the pair zipping around Seattle on their moped, donning wedding attire and soaking in the glow of the city. It’s a sweet and cinematic nod to their long partnership — intimate, playful, and sincere.

“There were many cars honking at us and shouting ‘Congratulations!’ haha!” Anne recalls.

    Why It Matters

“Forever Lover (永远的爱人)” isn’t just a love song — it’s a celebration of cultural connection and shared life. In mixing Mandarin and English lyrics, Chinese American Bear bridge two musical worlds while radiating pure joy. It’s pop music with soul, story, and sincerity — and proof that romance can sound both timeless and modern.

    Upcoming Tour Dates:

    📍 10/28 – Brooklyn, NY – Elsewhere

    📍 11/08 – Seattle, WA – Cloudbreak Festival

    📍 11/13 – Miami, FL – Miami Festival @ Zeyzey
