Sonna Rele is a talented artist hailing from the UK. She clearly inherited the musical gene from her parents who are professional musicians. It was R&B star Ne-Yo that discovered the singer on Facebook and signed her to his label after witnessing her skill in performing cover songs on her Music Monday series. She is a gifted singer that has a beautiful voice that is mesmerizing. Couple that with the fact she is a gifted musician and has plans for a new EP and is regularly touring it won’t be long before aspiring musicians are covering her material. Check out the interview below:

What are your earliest musical memories?

My earliest musical memories include myself learning the violin. Also after watching Cinderella and wanting to sing and play music. A lot of the Disney Films inspired me to sing.

What inspires you to be an artist?

I feel being able to express my perspective in a creative way through music inspires me to share with others. If it is a feeling, idea or situation that listeners can relate to, I feel like I have done my job as an artist.

    Who are your musical influences?

My mom and dad, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson… just to name a few.

What career would you be pursuing if it wasn’t music?

Psychology is something I like to learn about in my spare time, so probably something in that field.

What is something that people don’t know about Sonna Rele?

    I am addicted to chocolate.

What were some of the obstacles you faced in having a music career and how did you overcome them?

Not having time for a personal life has been one of the hardest challenges. I try to find a balance in everything I do, but it is still something I am working on. Another obstacle I have faced is not being able to switch off. Where some have a 9-5, being in music can be 24/7 a lot of times.

What is one thing you wish you knew about the music business that you know now?

There is a lot more business than music than I anticipated!

What was your most embarrassing moment?

One of my most embarrassing moments is when I greeted the wrong city on tour. Instead of saying, “What’s up Birmingham,” I said “What’s up Brixton!”
    People started booing!

What was it like working with Neyo?

It doesn’t feel like work at all, it has been a lot of fun! Neyo is really sweet, funny and knows how to make people feel good. He is a talented writer and singer.

    What’s next for Sonna Rele?

I will be going on a U.K. tour with Neyo in the fall and will be releasing my own EP and some more surprises in my social media platform…Stay tuned!!!
