“Stand With Me” is an truly outstanding song from the sophomore product of my favorite new blues/folk singer, Katie Buchanan. On this song, her guitar playing (which is amazing – think Bonnie Raitt) takes a backseat to her piano playing, where she has written and song and played a song that sounds like it could have come off of Carole King’s Tapestry. Buchanan’s husky vocals and the great production (the drums rolling over you in the background, the Paula Cole-like background vocals, the huge yet intimate sound) combine to make one of the most beautiful songs of the year. If this doesn’t make the top 10 charts, you know the music industry really is dead.
