The Ever-Lovin’ Jug Band delves into an eclectic mix of genres on its new album ‘Move That Thing,’ set for release on July 19 via Jalopy Records. The band creatively integrates the distinctive sounds of a one-gallon jug bass into ’50s rock-n-roll, psychedelic, garage, jazz, and Phil Spector’s wall-of-sound. Today, the label unveiled “Enter The Fish Man,” the first single from the album, complete with a music video (see below).

Minnie Heart and Bill Howard, the duo behind the Ever-Lovin’ Jug Band, impressively handle all aspects of the album themselves—from writing and arranging to playing, singing, recording, and producing. The album features a consistent presence of the jug alongside a rich tapestry of baritone sax, heavy percussion, drum sets, soaring string sections, and innovative effects like tape delay, wild textures, sonic vistas, and reversed sounds. The vocal arrangements are particularly noteworthy, with most songs featuring dual lead vocals by Howard and Heart, creating a layered, double-tracked effect that enhances the overall warmth and depth of the sound.

In addition to their work on the album, Howard has also engineered recordings for other artists at Mashed Potato Records, while Heart has contributed her artistic talents to designing the album’s record jackets, logos, and posters. The unique fusion of vintage and contemporary elements in ‘Move That Thing’ not only showcases their multifaceted skills but also sets a new creative benchmark for genre blending in music.
