feats of engineering, fantasy of a broken heart, found you again, indie rock, alternative rock,

In September, NYC’s own Fantasy of a Broken Heart dropped their debut LP, Feats of Engineering, an album that instantly carved out a space in the indie scene. This record, crafted by the duo Al Nardo and Bailey Wollowitz—also known from their work with Water From Your Eyes—has quickly become essential listening, hailed by critics and celebrated in the underground scene. Launched with a glowing Stereogum Band To Watch feature, Feats of Engineering has garnered praise from heavyweights like The New York Times (who lauded the lead single as “life-affirming”), Pitchfork, and i-D, the latter dubbing them a “prog rock fairytale.” The acclaim is as wide-ranging as the album itself, evoking comparisons across a strikingly varied palette of influences.

And just when you thought the duo might take a moment to bask in the LP’s success, Fantasy of a Broken Heart has returned with new music, a collaboration with Jordana titled “Found You Again.”

With “Found You Again,” Nardo and Wollowitz have crafted an irresistible, heart-thumping anthem with their signature touch—a song that Wollowitz describes as “a sincere stab at an upbeat song of the summer, fantasy style.” Though it arrives a bit late in November’s gloom, this track has a warmth and a wistful nostalgia that feels like a beam of sunshine cutting through cold skies.

The track was born out of a chance encounter with Jordana during the Feats of Engineering sessions, and it was clear from the start that her intuitive songwriting and undeniable stage presence would make for a perfect collaboration. The result is a sweet reflection on reconnecting with an old flame, with each artist—Jordana, Al, and Bailey—taking turns weaving the story. It’s a collaborative mosaic, elevated by lush vocals from band member Margaux and contributions from Kolb on bass guitar and the surprisingly effective tin foil crumpling.

“Found You Again” is an enchanting continuation of Fantasy of a Broken Heart’s journey, showcasing their ability to blend sincerity with an otherworldly edge. It’s a standout track from a band that is redefining the indie rock landscape, and a clear sign that Fantasy of a Broken Heart is just getting started. Listen to “Found You Again” now, and dive into i-D’s profile for a deeper look into the magic of this rising band.
