Written and led by Thomas Rubenstein, Scarecrow II builds on the band’s Byrds-esque jangle and Go-Betweens-influenced romanticism, infusing tracks with violin, trumpet, organ, and slide guitar courtesy of a Bay Area dream team — including members of The Umbrellas, Neutrals, and Tony Molina. Produced by Alicia Vanden Heuvel (The Aislers Set) and mixed by Chris Cohen, the record honors the roots of college rock while sounding refreshingly present.
The lead single “Be Right Down” is a jangly gem that wraps aching sincerity in repeat-worthy riffs and delicate harmonies, featuring vocals from Morgan Stanley and a hook that sticks. From the introspective “Ebb Tide” to the literary showdown of “Battle of Blythe Road,” the album’s 10 tracks feel like dispatches from a world just outside of time—handwritten and heart-led.
No social media hype. No algorithm games. Just a brilliant, analog soul in a digital world.
