Halima is back—and she’s not just returning, she’s ascending. With her hypnotic new single “eau de vie,” the genre-bending artist teases her forthcoming debut album SWEET TOOTH (out September 19 via drink sum wtr) and steps boldly into a surreal world of sound, emotion, and visual fantasy.
Directed by Alex Kumph, the black-and-white video is a mesmerizing loop of self-reflection and sensuality—echoing Halima’s concept of love as both worship and delusion. “It’s the inner dialogue made visible,” she says, and it shows. Multiplying versions of herself swirl in a dreamstate where Afrofuturism collides with the warmth of ‘90s Sade and Aaliyah.
“eau de vie,” meaning “water of life,” feels like the slowest pour of liquid gold: hushed, aching, cinematic. It sets the tone for SWEET TOOTH, an album shaped by years of emotional excavation. From smoky club tracks like “cocoa body” to introspective ballads, Halima co-produces with heavy-hitters like Mikey Freedom Hart, blending Afro-pop, soul, and R&B into something genre-full—not genre-less.
Framed as one long night out, SWEET TOOTH is a love letter to bold softness and chaotic transformation. Halima calls it an epilogue: the closure of one chapter, and the beginning of something freer, fuller, and undeniably her.
Catch Halima live at Café Erzulie tonight and at her headline NY album release show October 7 at Night Club 101. Don’t miss the chance to experience this world firsthand.
