Cass McCombs has unveiled the final preview from his upcoming album, Interior Live Oak, due next Friday, August 15 on Domino. The new single, “I Never Dream About Trains,” is a haunting, piano-laced ballad filled with romantic regret, memory, and delicate truth.

Over a melancholic chord progression, McCombs revisits one piercing memory—holding a lover on the sand in Pescadero—while repeating a refrain that hits like a heart quietly breaking:

“I never dream about holding you tight… You know I never lie in my songs. And I never dream about trains.”

The accompanying lyric video (directed by Eugene Shakemup and M. Arnoux) matches the song’s soft devastation with a cinematic visual soaked in dusk tones and emotional stillness.

    🪵 ABOUT INTERIOR LIVE OAK

Already hailed by Uncut (9/10) and Mojo (4/5), Interior Live Oak is Cass McCombs’ most personally reflective and musically expansive album in years. Written after revisiting his earliest work for 2024’s Seed Cake compilation, the record reconnects him with longtime collaborators like Jason Quever, Chris Cohen, Matt Sweeney, and Mike Bones.

Interior Live Oak blends the poetic mysticism Cass is known for with emotional clarity and optimism. It’s music for still moments and soul-searching, and it may be his most timeless effort to date.

    🎫 TOUR DATES

Cass will perform across Europe and North America in support of the new album, including dates with Father John Misty, Destroyer, MJ Lenderman, and Nap Eyes.
