Mac DeMarco Redefines Intimacy on Guitar — Out Now

Mac DeMarco, Guitar, indie rock, acoustic, new album 2025, stripped back, singer-songwriter, DIY, emotional songwriting, timeless melodies

Mac DeMarco strips things down to reveal the beating heart of his indie-rock persona on Guitar, his sixth studio LP out August 22, 2025 via Mac’s Record Label  . Recorded in just twelve days (Nov 16–28, 2024) in his L.A. home, every note—acoustic strums, creaking minimalism, whispered vocals—feels painstakingly personal  .

This album follows the instrumental escapades of Five Easy Hot Dogs (2023) and the sprawling demo dump One Wayne G (199 tracks!)  , drawing a direct lineage back to the melancholic Here Comes the Cowboy (2019)  . The lead singles “Home,” “Holy,” and “Phantom” dropped ahead of the album, each unspooling more of its unfiltered, acoustic allure  .

Across its 12 tracks, Guitar is a hushed scrapbook of longing, reflection, and intimate confessions. Whether it’s the Beatlesque warmth of “Home,” the sparse reflection of “Holy,” or the ghostly closing lines of “Phantom,” DeMarco communicates via melody with the weight of unspoken memories  .

Pitchfork lists Guitar among this week’s essential must-hear albums, spotlighting it as a stripped-back yet defining moment highlighting DeMarco’s enviable melodic craft  .

In the broader arc of his career, Guitar finds Mac pivoting from slacker-slash-improvisational rock to a quiet, reverent clarity—like a notebook of memories passing through acoustic filters. It’s an album that refracts vulnerability through both abandon and simplicity.
